What is a Mesh Strap?

Watches with a mesh bracelet, also known as a Milanese bracelet, feature a finely woven metal band. Unlike traditional metal bracelets, it is not made from individual solid links. The mesh of fine metal wires creates a flexible surface that adapts to the shape of the wrist.

The metal mesh combines flexibility with the stability of a metal bracelet. The tightly interwoven wires can move against each other. This allows the bracelet to bend and fit evenly around the wrist.

Many mesh watch bracelets feature an adjustable sliding clasp. It can be positioned along the bracelet and then secured in place. This allows the bracelet length to be adjusted to the wrist within the available adjustment range without removing individual links. Other versions use fixed clasps or differently designed fastening systems.

The term Milanese refers to a form of metal meshwork associated with Milan. Woven metal structures were originally used for jewelry, among other applications, and were later adapted for watch bracelets.
